The Financial Inclusion, FinTech, and Financial Sustainability Conference is an initiative of a partnership between Zhejiang Gongshang University and Durham University. The conference is scheduled for November 11, 2023, in Hangzhou, China. Greetings and welcome to the event. Zhiguo He is a Presidential Chair Professor of finance at Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago, Director of the China Center of the Becker Friedman Institute of Economics at the University of Chicago, Co-Director of the Fama Miller Center at Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago, Professor and Researcher of the National Bureau of Economic Research of the United States, Senior Professor and Researcher of the Asian Financial and Economic Research Bureau, and Distinguished Professor of Alibaba Public Welfare Fund at the School of Economic Management of Tsinghua University. Professor He Zhiguo is currently the Executive Editor of Review of Asset Pricing Studies, and was once the Deputy Editor of Journal of Finance and Review of Financial Studies. His research achievements have won Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellowship, Brattle Group's Annual Best Paper Award, Amundi Smith Breden's Annual Best Paper Award, Lehman Brothers Fellowship for Research Excellence in Finance, etc.



Creating a Regional Innovation Ecosystem – Case Study of Gamification in the NE of UK


Kieran Jude Fernandes is the Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor (Development and Engagement) and Professor of Operations Management at the Durham University Business School. Prior to this role, he held the roles of Executive Dean (Interim), Associate Dean and Head of Department (Management & Marketing) at the Durham University Business School. Professor Fernandes is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences, the Executive Director of the Northern Powerhouse Innovation Observatory, Fellow of University College Durham, and the Wolfson Research Institute. He held academic positions at the Universities of Warwick and York and as a consulting Professor at the Cabinet Office’s Civil Contingencies Secretariat. He was appointed by the UK Secretary of State for International Development as a Non-Executive Director of the UK National Commission (UKNC) for UNESCO with special responsibility for Higher Education, and in 2017 was elected vice-chair of the UKNC. He is a Director of the Global Gateway’s Federation and Governor at several schools. He currently sits on a range of advisory panels covering various aspects of Operations and Innovation Management and is on the Academic Advisory Council member of the Chartered Management Institute.

Do Shadow Loans Create Firm Distress and Harm Investment? Evidence from China


Sushanta Mallick is a professor of international finance at the School of Business and Management, Queen Mary University of London. He has been the Co-editor-in-Chief of Economic Modelling, a leading scholarly journal published by Elsevier and Co-Editor of Economic Analysis and Policy. His academic work has been mainly focused on issues in macroeconomic policy, international finance and economic development. He has researched different aspects of international economics and finance at both macroeconomic and microeconomic levels. As well as monetary and financial issues, his published research includes issues connected with growth, development, and poverty. He has also carried out a substantial amount of work on various aspects of macroeconomic modelling. His work has been published in top-tier journals such as European Journal of Operational Research, Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization, Journal of Corporate Finance, Research Policy, Economic Theory, Journal of Banking & Finance and many more.

Jing Shi is a Professor of Finance at Zhongnan University of Economics and Law. Prior to that, he was a honorary professor of finance at Macquarie University.  Professor Shi is a fellow of Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand. He is a board member of Asian Finance Association and currently serves as Deputy Editor-in-Chief for Accounting and Finance as well as an Associate Editor for Research in International Business and Finance. Professor Shi’s main research interests are in the areas of empirical corporate finance, FinTech, debt markets, political economy and business strategy. He has published over 60 articles in a broad range of internationally recognised Economics, Finance, Accounting and management journals, including American Economic Review, Journal of Political Economy, Administrative Science Quarterly, Strategic Management Journal, and Management Science.

Yao Xu is a member of board of directors and Vice President of Zhejiang Tailong Commercial Bank and has been actively engaged in the micro-enterprise financial business for 15 years. He has held various positions including the head of the Microfinance Department at the Head Office, the head of the Market Management Department, and the president of Tailong Commercial Bank Shanghai Branch. Currently, he is in charge of Inclusive Finance, Wealth Management, Financial Market Operations, Internet E-banking, and External Cooperation.
